Refugee Week is a UK-wide festival highlighting the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees here.
It’s a celebration, and a way of showing that #EveryActionCounts to support the displaced, and demonstrating just some of the ways we can all stand #WithRefugees.
Refugee Week is an umbrella festival and partnership project coordinated by Counterpoints Arts, and supported by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, among others.
Founded in 1998 and held every year around World Refugee Day on the 20 June, Refugee Week is a growing movement. This year it runs June 15-21. Through a programme of arts, cultural and educational events alongside media and creative campaigns, Refugee Week brings about positive encounters between communities, helping them to connect and learn from each other, and promoting a culture of welcome.
This year, as a result of restrictions related to COVID-19, physical events have been called off. So the programme has shifted online. See details of the events that UNHCR and UK for UNHCR are supporting. Next year, we’ll be celebrating again in person, to re-connect and tighten the binds that tie us all together in mutual support and compassion.
This year’s digital promotions highlight the positive contributions that refugees and those working with them bring to the UK as well as the enormous challenges that refugees face globally amid the rising trend in forced displacement.
