Event: World Refugee Day online event June 19 at 11am CDT
MANSO and member agencies of newcomer service providers will come together to mark World Refugee Day (WRD) on June 19, 2020. WRD is a day to honour the strength and courage of refugees.
Please join us in remembering the strength, courage, and resilience of refugees on June 19th as we commemorate World Refugee Day. This virtual public awareness event will provide an opportunity for us to reflect on our shared global responsibility to respond to the devastating forced displacement crisis around the world. Especially at this time when we are under the strain of a worldwide pandemic, let’s not forget the plight of those for whom this situation adds another level of suffering and struggle.
The event will highlight opportunities to learn more about refugees and private sponsors and will include:
- Our guest speaker, the Honourable Lloyd Axworthy, Chair of the World Refugee Council (WRC). Lloyd served as Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Employment and Immigration and he is one of Canada’s leading voices on global migration and refugee protection
- Tareq Hadhad, former Syrian refugee and the founder of Peace by Chocolate. His story has been heard and inspired so many people around the world.
- A video about Manitoba refugees, and
- Special music
We welcome our members to register for the event and participate in the event via zoom. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the event via Facebook live stream. We look forward to your participation as individuals and service providers on June 19th at 11:00 AM (CDT).
We stand together #WithRefugees. Please stand with us.
