About Pinky

Pinky Ghelani is a Kenyan media personality and a UNHCR supporter. She has served as a champion of the LuQuLuQu campaign since 2017 to advocate and raise funds to support people forced to flee their homes because of violence, conflict and persecution.

Pinky visited Kakuma refugee camp with UNHCR in 2017 and 2019. There, she met people forced to flee, and learnt about their personal journeys and acts of resilience. Her visits focused on livelihood opportunities and the provision of education for refugees.

After witnessing the life of a refugee firsthand, Pinky launched The Sustainable Livelihoods Initiative at a brunch titled ‘The Power of Her’. The initiative calls on the strength of every woman to give back to women in refugee camps who need their dignity restored. She looks to empower refugee women with skills to support their families and reclaim their power.  Pinky has also organized networking events such as 'Breakfast with Pinky' and rotary lunches to encourage small and medium enterprises to join the LuQuLuQu campaign and support refugees.

Pinky is committed to amplifying the LuQuLuQu campaign and uses her network to spread the campaign’s key message of changing the narrative of the African refugee, one family at a time. On World Refugee Day 2020, Pinky hosted UNHCR Kenya’s virtual event, featuring remarks from UNHCR and government officials and performances from refugee musicians and artists.
