Resolving Statelessness in Thailand

 

“We found that some children we helped 20 years ago to have rights and legal status, those who seemed to have no future, have become university graduates with bachelors and master’s degrees. Some became government officials and commissioned officers. Some work in large Thai companies and receive high salaries… On behalf of the government, I pledge that Thailand and the Thai government are committed to collaborating with UNHCR to resolve and end statelessness in Thailand.”

More than 27,000 stateless people in Thailand have acquired Thai nationality since the end of 2011 thanks to the concerted efforts of the government with the support of UNHCR and its NGO partner.
