Emergency response for more than 300 refugees in Aceh
UNHCR is responding to the second group of Rohingya refugees in Lhokseumawe, Aceh. Previously, there are some 98 refugees who came earlier and already handled by UNHCR, the Government of Indonesia, and stakeholders. Last week, the second group of some 296 refugees arrived and welcomed in Lhokseumawe. Included in this group are survivors from the second group which includes 46 women and 183 children under 18-year-old.
The refugees had been floating at sea for 7 months without any help. More than 30 refugees are reported to have died at sea.
Currently, UNHCR is coordinating with various relevant stakeholders, including the local governments, other UN agencies, local NGOs to provide immediate first aid and helps needed for the refugees.
With the arrival of the second group, the total of refugees in Aceh rises to nearly 400 people, many of them are women and children.
In this emergency situation, UNHCR ask you to join in helping the refugees to survive by sending supply such as food, shelter, medicine, and other urgent needs.
The collected donations will be distributed to help the refugees in Aceh and throughout Indonesia.
