In November 2018, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Silatech signed a cooperation agreement aimed at supporting UNHCR’s protection and assistance activities for refugees and displaced persons globally.
The agreement spans for a period of five years, from 2019 to 2024, with a minimum annual contribution of US$5 million per year. The agreement formalizes the commitment by Silatech to support UNHCR’s programmes in the area of livelihoods and economic empowerment in Asia, Africa and MENA regions. In 2019, as part of the cooperation agreement, a project promoting youth livelihood initiatives in Somalia worth US$1,027,147 and a project for the rehabilitation of livelihood infrastructures inside Syria worth US$995,100 were signed.
Impact at a glance
- Five-year cooperation agreement to support UNHCR’s livelihood activities in Asia, Africa and MENA regions from 2019 to 2024
- 6,316 youth IDPs, refugees and returnees have benefited from youth livelihood initiatives for enhanced economic inclusion and peaceful coexistence in Somalia
- 3,786 youth have benefited from this project and 345,250 Syrian IDPs and returnees have benefited indirectly from the rehabilitation of livelihood infrastructures in Syria
