![South Sudanese farmers stand on their farm in Akobo, in South Sudan’s Jonglei State. Akobo is surrounded by wetlands and is situated in the namesake county a few kilometres from the border with Ethiopia in between Pibor River and Geni River, in South Sudan’s Jonglei State. The local economy is largely based on agriculture, livestock production and fishing. The 2008 census put the number of Akobo County’s population at 132,000, but it is now half that figure according to Nyang Koang Ter, Head of the Relief Organization for South Sudan in Akobo - the humanitarian wing of Sudan’s People Liberation Movement in Opposition. "We have enough land to welcome back our brothers and sisters displaced by war, but they need help from the international community to get back on their feet and restart their lives. This means food, household goods and livelihoods support," says Nyang. © UNHCR/Rocco Nuri 2016](https://webarchive.archive.unhcr.org/20201112220625im_/https://reporting.unhcr.org/sites/default/files/field/image/South%20Sudan%20sit_resized.jpg)
