Live from the Za’atari Refugee Camp in Jordan –the world’s largest camp for Syrian refugees– WeWork, Goal Click and UNHCR invite you to hear from 21 year old Fawzi, a coach and former professional footballer living in Za’atari after he fled Syria.
Fawzi will share what it was like growing up in Syria, and how the Za’atari Refugee Camp has impacted his life. He will be joined by Lilly Carlisle from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, who will be sharing the latest updates on their refugee relief efforts, and Matthew Barrett, Founder of Goal Click, a storytelling project empowering refugees around the world to document their lives through football and photography.
Fawzi, 21, is a football coach. He has played with Al Sarih Sport Club and Al-Hussein SC (Irbid). He plays with Alkass international academy in Zaatari camp and has been selected to participate in football initiatives such as the Aspire Academy in Qatar and the Syrian Dream football project in 2017.
Lilly Carlisle is based in Amman, Jordan, where she works as an External Relations Officer with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. She is responsible for capturing the day-to-day lives of refugees and communicating about the challenges they face. She has worked across the Middle East, including for UNICEF and Al Jazeera, telling stories of people who have been affected by conflict.
Matthew Barrett is Founder of Goal Click (@goalclick), a global football storytelling and photography project, finding inspirational people to tell stories about their football lives and communities. Goal Click partners include FIFA, UEFA, Common Goal, COPA90, adidas, and UNHCR. Major exhibitions have been hosted in London, Paris, Moscow, and Doha.
