Making a difference, together.

Saudi Arabia continues to expand and reinforce its partnership with UNHCR, with their contributions enabling UNHCR to protect, assist, and seek solutions for refugees and displaced people.

Saudi Arabia continues to expand and reinforce its partnership with UNHCR, with their contributions enabling UNHCR to protect, assist, and seek solutions for refugees and displaced people. Funding supports vital UNHCR programmes, including health, education, shelter, water and sanitation, infrastructure, basic needs, cash assistance, and livelihoods.

Saudi Arabia, including the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), is among the top 15 donors to UNHCR globally. Saudi contributions have enabled a continued humanitarian response in the Middle East and other regions, particularly to those affected by the Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, and Rohingya crises. As a supporter of UNHCR, Saudi Arabia also encourages a focus on strengthening partnerships, particularly public-private collaboration, that will benefit refugees and other people of concern. UNHCR has had a presence in Saudi Arabia since 1987.

Internally displaced Syrians in Hama Governorate collect vital aid supplies from UNHCR and local partners.

Millions of Syrians have been displaced from their homes. UNHCR is on the ground, supporting families with protection services and humanitarian assistance, including the distribution of blankets, mattresses, sleeping mats and plastic sheeting to help them cope.

"We had a lot of garbage in the street, but thanks to God it has now been cleaned”

Ali, 45, supports his family of three through the UNHCR supported cash-for-work project in Basateen, Aden. Ali receives US $220 a month to collect garbage and also leads educational activities to promote good hygiene practices amongst his community.
Funds from KSrelief allow UNHCR to continue supporting activities like these in Yemen, improving sustainable waste management and preventing the outbreak of disease in the community.

With support from the Saudi Fund for Development, UNHCR distributes winterization items in Lebanon.

Syrian refugees in Lebanon face harsh winter conditions, with little heat and poor clothing. Helping them prepare for the colder months to come, UNHCR distributes vital weatherproofing kits to refugees in informal settlements in Bekaa and the north of Lebanon.

Best friends Sara and Leila play at the early intervention center in Kharaz Refugee camp, Lahj

They joined the center around the same time and have since become inseparable. When asked what they love the most about the center both said “each other!”. Sara and Leila have both been diagnosed with developmental delays that impact their ability to learn. UNHCR works with partners to offer them a safe environment to learn and develop basic skills until they can integrate into the formal education system.

With support from UNHCR and partners, a Somali refugee has the lifesaving cancer treatment she needs.

Fatoon, a 37-year-old Somali refugee, arrived in Yemen in August 2019. In Somalia, her work in a shop in the market earned her enough to provide for her young children. But when the owners of the shop where she worked suddenly closed the business, Fatoon lost her job and quickly ran out of savings. Eventually she lost her rented apartment and with little choice, she decided to travel to Yemen.
"It broke my heart not to be able to provide for my kids anymore. I thought that in Yemen, I could earn enough money to take care of them."
