GPC GLOBAL PROTECTION FORUM 2020

This year, the Global Protection Forum brought together 3000 experts from 30+ operations to discuss real time protection challenges, share experiences and provide strategic direction for protection actors and the Global Protection Cluster.
The Forum harmonized approaches and brought forward a number of priorities that require global advocacy and attention, collective action and advocacy such as the need for (i) protection risks and needs of affected populations to systematically guide humanitarian collective action, (ii) stronger participation and empowerment of local actors and communities, (iii) more robust partnerships with actors and stakeholders beyond the protection and humanitarian community, (iv) more intentional targeting of marginalised and often overlooked populations such as people leaving with disabilities, older people, and persons victims of trafficking. Technical working sessions with Coordinator and Co-coordinators in the field were instrumental in defining concrete steps to ensure basics or protection response and coordination are place in all operations, in line the GPC operational footprint.
The forum will be closed formally on the 30th of November from 18:00 to 20:00 in a Swiss hosted High-level event. The event will present the overall resource requirements for protection in over 30 operations ahead of the GHO launch, drawn attention to obstacles and opportunities to resource life-saving protection action, and illustrate a frontline image of the impact of COVID-19 on some of the world’s most neglected protection crises.
