About the webinar:
The OSCE Representative on Freedomof the Media, Harlem Désir, will be organizing an online event on 8 July on“The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and how it will reshape the future offree speech”.
The event will provide a platformto discuss the role of AI in shaping and arbitrating information, and theimpact this has on freedom of expression.
The Representative will open theevent, which will consist of two sessions.
Session one, on “The use of AI incontent moderation: challenges and risks for freedom of expression” will seekto address the role and responsibilities of internet intermediaries in addressingillegal and potentially harmful content, such as security threats and hatespeech. It will also address the particular role of States in ensuringresponsible moderation of content without harming democratic discourse.
Session two, on “How does the useof AI to rank, monetize and curate content impact free speech?” will focus onhow AI is deployed for sorting, prioritizing and curating content, and theimpact that such technologies have on plurality and diversity online.
The following speakers will addressthe sessions:
