Description
The projects “Education for All in Times of Crisis I&II” and “Education Infrastructure for Resilience” aimed at increasing access of Syrian and Turkish children to educational services by constructing new schools for them. An additional capacity of approximately 160.000 students will be created by constructing 220 schools. The total budget of the projects is 475 Million €.
Project aims
The projects aim to increase the access of Syrians and Turkish communities to education by building disaster-resilient educational facilities within the 19 provinces. Implementation provinces were selected according to the educational capacity need after migration and the ratio of the Syrian population to the local community population.
The disaster-resilient and modern facilities also contribute to a better learning environment that has a positive effect on the learning abilities of students/trainees.
Main activities of the Good Practice
The projects have 3 components;
- Supporting the Investments on the Education Infrastructure - 60 prefabricated and 160 reinforced concrete schools are being constructed in 19 provinces.
- Enhancing Quality Learning Environment - providing educational equipment to all schools. Approximately 40,000 pieces of equipment will be delivered to 220 schools.
- Project Management and Capacity Building - Increase the technical capacity and project implementation skills of the Ministry

Challenges and how they were overcome
Different types of challenges were experienced during the project implementation process:
- Delays in construction processes due to adverse weather conditions.
- Land acquisition and appropriate site selection processes.
Results of the Good Practice
- 60 Prefabricated schools were built in order to meet the increasing educational capacity requirement due to the migration wave after the Syrian crisis. Prefabricated schools were selected for emergency response to the crisis with fast construction time.
- 160 concrete schools are being built in order to ensure the sustainability of education services and to meet the need for long-term infrastructure.
- The necessary educational equipment of all schools is provided by the project. Approximately 40,000 pieces of educational equipment will be supplied to schools within the scope of the project. Approximately 25% of the equipment is already supplied to schools
