Description

This project helps the refugees to realize self-reliance through the acquisition of musical and collaboration skills as they integrate into the entertainment realm.   

The benefits of the program aids the beneficiaries in self-expression, coping and sharing of their traumatic experiences.  

Project aims 

The project aims to foster and meet refugees and asylum seekers in Addis Ababa at the point of their psycho-social level through quality non-formal education and music appreciation.   

The quality of education strengthens and builds physical and psychological resilience while lessening the impact of trauma.  

Aids in the improvement of musical skills or development of new skills as a bridge to team building, collaboration, and self-accomplishment.  

Resources used 

Dedicated money obtained through grants is utilized.  

Partners 

Although not directly involved in the project, Agency for Refugee and Returnee Affairs support the refugees in granting permits to relocate in the city as its Out of Camp Policy (OCP).

Results of the Good Practice 

• The refugees have developed musical instrument skills.
• They have realized formation of a musical band where they show their works in clubs found in Addis Ababa.
• They’ve realized self-reliance by showing their musical performances. 

Next steps 

The project will continue as the centre conducts the activities on annual basis.
