    The number of asylum-seekers and migrants reaching European shores after crossing the Mediterranean Sea is in sharp decline. The rate of men, women and children losing their lives at sea is increasing. This is unacceptable.

    There is no migration/refugee crisis in Europe. Very low arrival and "secondary movement" figures are the opportunity for EU states to focus together on real issues like asylum reform, safe pathways and more+better aid to refugee hosting+transit countries.

    It is not enough to have political agreements between States when people continue to drown in the Mediterranean. Rescue at sea, disembarkation and safe pathways must all be urgently improved so that lives can be saved.

    Saddened by the loss of 100 lives today off the coast of Libya in Tajoura - 30 women and 70 men died after swimming for one hour before they were rescued. UNHCR teams supported the 16 survivors upon disembarkation with humanitarian and medical assistance
