The Lives of the People of Aleppo; their Hardship and their Hope

Amidst destruction and damage to most of the city, they went to check on their homes, only to find their homes in ruins after years of fighting.

Life still goes on and there is hope.

“We are happy to stay here on top of this heap of wreck, it’s our home, maybe damaged, but we will rebuild it, we just need water and electricity.” One man from East Aleppo told our colleague.

Many East Aleppo residents came back to see their houses after the fighting had stopped, four years of fighting took a toll on the city and many of the residents went back to neighborhoods with a lot of destruction.

After four years of displacement some residents were lucky to find some of their possessions undamaged and they could salvage at least a keepsake form their damaged homes.

“I wanted to go with my dad to see our house and maybe retrieve my toys I left there, but there was nothing.” 11 year old Suad said.

Still the skilled labourers and craftsmen they are, the people of Aleppo are seeking job opportunities and want to register their kids in schools.
