Live: Screening and Discussion of Inside My Heart
UNHCR Supports Canadian Film on Refugees and Resettlement
UNHCR UK’s Representative Rossella Pagliuchi-Lor, will join Debra Kellner, Director of Inside My Heart, for a discussion about the film after an exclusive virtual screening supported by the High Commission of Canada and Bertha DocHouse.
The screening, on June 19, falls a day before World Refugee Day. The film, by Canadian Kellner, focuses on three families forced to flee war-torn Syria and Afghanistan at the peak of the refugee crisis and seek safety abroad. Kellner’s documentary delivers a vital reminder of the personal stories of some of the families and individuals swept by global forced displacement.
As a partner in the Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative, and a signatory to the Global Compact on Refugees, the Government of Canada is committed to refugee resettlement and exploring complementary pathways to resettlement beyond traditional routes. Canada’s rich humanitarian tradition speaks to this commitment, with its own Privately sponsored Refugees program beginning in 1979. Since then sponsors have welcomed more than 330,000 refugees.
Global opportunities for resettlement nonetheless have declined in recent years, while the scale and scope of forced displacement continue to rise. Registration for the screening is here.
