Friday, 23 March 2018 UNHCR Northern Europe in partnership with Estonian Refugee Council held a workshop on Participatory Approaches (PA).

The workshop, led by UNHCR Protection Associate Lena Fransson, examined Participatory Assessment in reception facilities through introducing key concepts of PA, methods and ethical considerations. The workshop participants also looked into Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) approach.

Workshop participants from IOM, Estonian Refugee Council, the mental health network and representatives from the Government Ministry of Estonia, looked into facilitating Focus Group discussions with men and women followed by a simulation of a focus group discussion with female refugees aged 25-55.

Participants also discussed the Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) approach – quintessential part of the Participatory Assessment – that seeks to ensure that all persons of concern enjoy their rights on an equal footing and are able to participate fully in the decisions that affect their lives and the lives of their family members and communities.
