Help strengthen COVID-19 prevention and response for the most vulnerable

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. This is a global and fast-evolving challenge that must be addressed through international solidarity and cooperation.

Thus, we are inviting the private corporations, foundations, and high net worth individuals to invest in preventing and responding to this health crisis that has now affected over 100 countries, including the Philippines. Low-resourced countries with weaker health systems are especially vulnerable to this emergency.

With a multi-sector approach, we are closely coordinating with competent government authorities and sister UN agencies here in the Philippines, and follow the guidance received from the World Health Organization (WHO).

UNHCR has been closely monitoring the situation and its possible effects on forcibly displaced populations. Everyone – including refugees and asylum seekers – should be able to access health facilities and services in a non-discriminatory manner.

The Global Compact on Refugees

In December 2018, member states of the United Nations have forged the Global Compact on Refugees, a historic deal to forge a stronger, fairer response to large refugee movements and situations of prolonged displacement.

The Philippines is among the nations that endorsed the compact, a blueprint that calls for greater support for refugees and the countries that welcome them. It also aims to help refugees become more self-reliant so that they can contribute more to their own future and to that of their host communities.

How Donations Are Used

UNHCR’s programs are designed to provide urgent assistance, protection services, and help find lasting solutions for refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees, and stateless persons. Special focus is given to the most vulnerable, especially women, children, older people and those living with disabilities. Visit this page to learn how donations are used.
