IOM

Organizational Context and Scope

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.

With 173-member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

As an important function of its mandate, IOM is the Cluster Lead Agency for Camp

Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) for natural disaster-induced displacement situations under the 2005 IASC Humanitarian Reform. In line with the commitments to the global Call to Action on Protection Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Emergencies, and in accordance with the IASC Guidelines for Integrating Gender-Based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Action (2015), IOM has been working to improve GBV prevention and risk mitigation in CCCM operations worldwide. Since 2015, IOM HQ is implementing a global project on GBV prevention and mitigation activities under the Safe from the Start Initiative (SftS) supported by PRM. IOM’s interventions are designed to reduce vulnerabilities to GBV at the onset of emergencies, by building the capacity of field practitioners to identify, prevent and mitigate GBV risks; providing innovative tools to improve the management of sectoral responses and coordination of service provision in response to identified risks; enhancing operational collaboration between CCCM, GBV and other specialized Protection actors; and improving women’s participation in camp governance structures.

Timely and accurate information is integral to successful coordination of humanitarian action in a camp setting. The ability to collect, collate, analyze, disseminate and act on data pertaining to the protection and welfare situation of camp residents is fundamental to an effective intervention. Under the direct supervision of the Global CCCM Cluster Information Management Officer, and the overall supervision of the Global CCCM Cluster Coordinator, the Information Management Intern’s (IM Intern) will support knowledge management, information management and analysis capacity of the Global CCCM Support Team to ensure evidence-based actions, gap-filling and sound coordination; and enhance accountability, predictability and effectiveness of both CCCM cluster and IOM programs.
