The principle of family unity, provided for in the Federal Constitution and the American Convention on Human Rights, is guaranteed to recognized refugees and their families through family reunification and the extension of the effects of the refugee status.
Family Reunification: A procedure that ensures that members of the family of a recognized refugee who are outside the national territory can meet with him or her in the country of refuge.
Extension of the effects of refugee status: A procedure that ensures that the refugee status is extended to other members of his or her family, provided they are in the national territory.

Family Reunification Procedure
This procedure is only available to refugees already recognized by Brazil and to relatives who are abroad.
If your relative is already in Brazil, go to the nearest Federal Police unit, together with your relative, and request the “extension of the effects of refugee status”.
Step 1 – Register as a SEI user according to the manual instructions available at the link.
Step 2 – On the left side, under “petição”, choose the “intercorrente”.
Step 3 – Under “número de processo”, enter your Refugee Protocol number, then click “validar”.
Step 4 – After clicking “validar”, the SEI will fill in the “Tipo” field with the information “Migrações: Pedido de Refúgio”. Click on “adicionar”.
Step 5 – Then go to the “escolher arquivo” option. Select the form already filled in with your information.
Step 6 – Choose the “tipo de documento” (preferably choose “formulário”) and, in the “complemento do tipo de documento” field, preferably enter the name of the form you are including in the process (eg registration update, unarchiving, withdrawal, request for certificate, etc.).
Step 7 – In format, choose “nato-digital”.
Step 8 – Then click on “adicionar”. You can add as many documents as needed.
Step 9 – After including all the documents, click “peticionar”.
After this registration your process will be reviewed by the Conare General Coordination.
Note: The refugee’s manifestation of will is no guarantee of a family reunion visa.
It is important to keep in mind that all travel costs, such as airfare, are your responsibility. The Brazilian government will not bear the costs of your family coming to Brazil.

Procedure for Extending the Effects of Refugee Status
If the request is for yourself, complete the CONVERSÃO DE SOLICITAÇÃO DE REFÚGIO EM EXTENSÃO DA CONDIÇÃO DE REFUGIADO form.
If the request is for a family member under 18, complete the CONVERSÃO DE SOLICITAÇÃO DE REFÚGIO EM EXTENSÃO DA CONDIÇÃO DE REFUGIADO_C&A
Step 1 – Register as a SEI user according to the manual instructions available at the link.
Step 2 – After gaining access to SEI, log in with your login and password.
Step 3 – On the left side, under “petição”, choose the “intecorrente” option.
Step 4 – Under “número de processo”, enter your Refugee Protocol number and then click “validar”.
Step 5 – After clicking “validar”, the SEI will fill in the “Tipo” field with the information “Migrações: Pedido de Refúgio”. Click on “adicionar”.
Step 6 – Then go to the option “escolher arquivo”. Select the FORM already filled in with your information.
Step 7 – Under “tipo de documento”, choose “formulário” and in the “complemento do tipo de documento” field, place CONVERSÃO DE REFÚGIO EM EXTENSÃO.
Step 8 – In format, choose “nato-digital”.
Step 9 – Then click on “adicionar”.
Step 10 – After adding the form, click “peticionar”.
After this registration your registration will be reviewed by the Conare General Coordination.
