The Covid-19 pandemic has deeply affected life of refugees and asylum seekers in Algeria. Many were left with no job or house, struggling to find solutions and relying on UNHCR assistance. But refugees and asylum seekers are resilient: they have proved to have skills, talent, solidarity and strength as individuals and as a community.
UNHCR office in Algiers launches a photography contest to portray life of refugees and asylum seekers during the Covid-19 pandemic. The contest is organized in the framework of the virtual activities of World Refugee Day 2020, whose theme is “Everyone can make a difference, Every Action Counts”. The contest is open to all refugees and asylum seekers in Algeria and UNHCR will award winners with cash prizes.
Contest description:
UNHCR believes that even during a pandemic, “Everyone counts, Everyone can make a difference”. Take a photo and show us how you are making a difference as an individual or in your community during the current pandemic. You can base your photo on personal or others’ experiences and activities, you can choose to portray yourself, your family or your community members, in a context of your choice. Be creative and show us the skills, talent, solidarity and the individual and community resources you have in the current pandemic!
Rules:
- The contest is open to all refugees and asylum seekers;
- Each participant can send max 2 photos;
- Photos must be sent by WhatsApp at the number +213 0670144877, reporting full name of the participant, UNHCR registration number (578-…), photo’s date and location, and a sentence explaining the subject of the photo;
- Deadline: 18 June;
- Winners will be selected by UNHCR based on the photo’s relevance to the theme, clarity of the photo’s message, esthetic and technical achievement;
- Winners will be awarded cash prizes at UNHCR office.
UNHCR might contact participants to resend the photo with higher resolution or in case relevant information is missing. With the consent of the participant and the persons portrayed, the office might consider using photos for visibility events and UNHCR publications. Participants will be informed and contacted in this regard.
