UNHCR provides cash assistance to returnees in Rwanda

“UNHCR is providing a one-time cash assistance upon return to Rwanda.”

More than 3.4 million Rwandans refugees have been assisted to return home since the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

UNHCR announced the closure the situation of Rwandan refugees who fled 1 January 1999 and recommended the cessation of their refugee status by 31 December 2017.

Returnees receive $250 USD/adult & $150 USD/child to ensure that their reintegration is dignified and sustainable.

In addition to receiving cash, returnees receive a 3 months food ration provided by WFP, as well as a one year health insurance provided by UNHCR.
