UNHCR, Saharat “Kong” Sangkapricha and other top celebrities continue the “NAMJAI FOR REFUGEES” campaign to raise funds for the global refugee crisis

Bangkok 2018 — United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) launched the “NAMJAI (Generosity) FOR REFUGEES” fundraising campaign led by Saharat “Kong” Sangkapricha, together with other top celebrities to raise funds to support the current global refugee crisis. Committing to give via credit card or buying merchandise from the campaign’s private partners will enable UNHCR to meet the basic needs of refugees such as clean water, clothing, temporary shelter and health services, especially to the most vulnerable groups such as women and children. War, conflict and persecution drove worldwide forced displacement to a new high in 2017 for the fifth year in a row, leaving 68.5 million people in limbo — as many as the entire population of Thailand. Consequently, more innovative and comprehensive approaches are required to address the situation, which is too large for any single country or community to handle alone.

Pia Carmela Paguio, Officer-in-Charge, UNHCR Representative in Thailand, stated, “The needs far outweigh the available assistance, especially basic needs to survive such as clean water, shelter, clothing and access to medical services. Hence, regular donations from the Thai public are vital to the lives of refugees.”

“NAMJAI FOR REFUGEES” is entering its third year with activities initiated by Saharat “Kong”, combined with Thai hospitality to help refugees around the world. Saharat “Kong” Sangkapricha said, “This year is crucial as the refugee situation is in crisis like never before. I would like to encourage Thai people to make a commitment to give to ‘NAMJAI FOR REFUGEES’ to enable UNHCR to provide basic needs: shelter, clean water, clothing and health services to refugee families.”

This year the “NAMJAI FOR REFUGEES” campaign will also be supported by many Thai public figures such as Wannasingh Prasertkul, the famous TV host and Nirut Sirichanya, the legendary actor, who will organize fundraising activities throughout the next three months.
