Availability of the Position as soon as possible

 

In coordination with PSP Asia Regional, the incumbent is expected to:

  • Under supervision of PSP Officer (Asia & Pacific) and support from regional/HQ’s colleagues, work to develop new relationships with private sector partners and donors (corporates, foundations and HNWIs) in the Asia Pacific region to obtain high value financial support for selected projects and programs globally, advocate and raise awareness for UNHCR and develop other engagements as appropriate;

  • Support the overall development of philanthropy and major donor fundraising in the APAC region by working on capacity building of the existing team

  • Give guidance to fundraising teams in the Asia Pacific region to significantly increase income from existing middle donors in database by upgrading them to major donors.

  • Provide donors with appropriate stewardship and donor care to include regular briefings and reports, organization of field or HQ visits, regular development meetings and any other necessary support as requested by corporate, foundation and major donors in a timely fashion.

  • In collaboration with the PSP Officer (Asia & Pacific), develop the annual plans, including financial budgets, for Private Partnerships and Philanthropy for the regional and national budgets in Asia and pacific.

  • Provide regular analysis and reports about the partnerships and philanthropy programmes of the region to local, regional and global stakeholders.

  • Identify, support and develop opportunities in line with organizational priorities incl. on operational partnerships;

  • Develop compelling proposals and presentations for prospective new partners;

  • Work closely with PPH network and key/senior UNHCR staff to develop and lead engagement plans to build relationships with senior foundation leaders and philanthropy networks;

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for donors to measure and monitor progress, and provide regular reports and analysis on the progress of donations and pledges

  • Maintain detailed records of engagement and plans, using relevant systems to monitor progress in the development of partnerships;

  • Perform any other related duties that may be required.

  • PSP PPH programme in APAC Region is generating growing income from philanthropy and foundation sources to sustain UNHCR's activities worldwide.

  • The PSP PPH team in APAC is further trained and capacitated to grow middle to major donor income.

  • The PSP PPH annual plan, including its associated income targets and other goals is developed, implemented, achieved and reported on in a timely manner.

  • The annual expenditure budget for PSP PPH Operations in the region is efficiently utilized.

  • Devise a medium term approach and development plan to pursue PPH middle to major donor upgrades across the region.

  • Act as the focal point for the new accounts developed in the foundation and philanthropy space in APAC.

  • Co-Develop the annual PPH giving budget and plan

  • Promote and develop innovation into projects.

  • Represent UNHCR in meetings with prospective and current partners to promote an accurate understanding of UNHCR's work and its financial and other needs.

 

Qualifications and Required Competencies

  • A university degree (BA) in business/marketing, social sciences or a related discipline plus at least 6 years’ of previous relevant work experience (5 years with Graduate degree equivalent of a Masters and 4 years with Doctorate equivalent of a PhD) with at least 4 years international private sector fundraising experience in a not-for-profit organization or an international organization.

  • Experience with developing and implementing private sector fundraising plans and budgets.

  • Proven ability to meet fundraising targets and to negotiate and secure corporate, foundation or philanthropy partnerships for a monetary value of at least $250,000.

  • Proven experience in managing middle to major donor fundraising programs.

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing PSP plans and budgets.

  • Proven ability to meet fundraising targets.

  • Proven experience in managing high level meetings

  • Proven ability in understanding how to reconcile the needs of the Organization with those of the donor.

  • Experience with organizing workshops, trainings and coaching staff.

  • Proven ability to write, draft, and edit letters, proposals, appeals, reports, acknowledgements, briefings, and donor correspondence when appropriate and ability to explain complex issues to external donors and present the organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner.

  • Excellent knowledge of English (written/oral/comprehension). Highly developed drafting ability in English. Preference to candidates able to work in an additional major Asian language.

  • Good knowledge of humanitarian assistance and UN environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior staff, as well as external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and results-oriented with a strong sense of accountability

  • Ability to focus and thrive in a highly dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

  • Client orientation, networking and relationship-building skills.

  • Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven experience in managing accounts with foundations, corporations and High Net Worth Individuals in the APAC region.

 

Desired Competencies:

  • Access to a network of business contacts at senior management level in the APAC region and an established network in the private sector fundraising sector in the region.
  • Negotiated and secured partnerships for a high monetary value (> 500,000 USD preferably cash).
  • Work experience with an INGO in the humanitarian field is preferable.
  • Knowledge of UNHCR programmes and activities, particularly at field level.
