Objectif(s) | Ensure accommodation in social housing for resettled refugees |
Results/Impact | • All families resettled in Paraguay are housed immediately upon arrival in the country in individual dwellings (provided by the National Secretary of Housing and Habitat, and equipped by the Programme) • The first year of residence in the assigned housing is free of charge to the refugees or the Programme • From the second year on, refugees could buy the homes paying low monthly installments, according to the rules governing the programmes of SENAVITAT • Resettled families will have access to their own permanent housing. |
Why is this considered a Good practice? | • The formal agreement that provides the framework for the project was signed by CONARE, SENAVITAT (formerly CONAVI), UNHCR and CIPAE (private initiative). The role of the State in the resettlement project is emphasized • Resettled families are located in SENAVITAT homes immediately upon arrival in the country, in the form of usufruct free for one year. This has eased the legal criteria for access to social housing in Paraguay for resettled people • The project reflects the implementation of the provision of the MoU on Resettlement regarding the facilitation of access to public housing |
