Objectif(s) | Promote effective local integration of refugees in Mexico. |
Results/Impact | State of Mexico: 1) signing of a letter of intent between UNHCR, the government of the State of Mexico, COMAR and Sin Fronteras in June 2008, which strengthens the linkages for the protection of refugees in this State. 2) There have been contacts with nurseries to facilitate the education of refugee children; food pantries have been provided for vulnerable refugees. 3) There have been contacts with the State Department of Labour and the Mexican Institute of Entrepreneurship (Instituto Mexiquense del Emprendedor) to promote employment of refugees. Publication of a diagnosis on local integration in Mexico City in 2009. Signing of Agreement with CONAPRED to prevent discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance towards refugees. Project of Savings and Credit (Cajas de Ahorro y Crédito) for refugee women at Casa Espacio de los Refugiados with Amnesty International. Refugee access to free or low-cost health care (Seguro Popular). Agreements between COMAR and the Ministry of Education for recognition of primary, secondary and higher education studies. Agreement between COMAR and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México to facilitate free Spanish classes for refugees. |
