A court in Kazakhstan's western city of Atyrau has ordered that three alleged terrorists be held for two months in pretrial detention.

Local authorities said the three men illegally obtained firearms and searched the Internet for instructions how to make explosive devices.

According to the officials, the trio also planned attacks against local law-enforcement officers and local government officials.

The October 1 announcement comes days after security forces and police killed four suspected militants in the same city in a special operation following an explosion and a gun battle near a police station in Atyrau in mid-September that injured two policemen.

In a separate attack in mid-September, five alleged militants were killed by security troops in the nearby town of Kulsary.
