Uzbek nationals may lose citizenship if found guilty of mercenary activities, terrorism, inciting racial, ethnic, or religious hatred, and other crimes "against peace and security."
State-run media outlets published the amendments to the Uzbek Law On Citizenship on August 11, one day after it was signed by President Islam Karimov.
The bill was approved by the parliament's lower chamber on July 29 and passed by the upper chamber, the Senate, on August 6.
Hundreds of Uzbek citizens are believed to be fighting alongside Islamic militants in the Middle East and South Asia in different extremist groups, including Islamic State and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
