BISHKEK – Almazbek Atambaev, who won last month 's Kyrgyz presidential election pending official confirmation of the results, will be inaugurated before the end of the year to comply with legislation passed soon after the current, 19-month-old interim government took power, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

Kyrgyz presidential envoy to parliament Daniyar Narymbaev told RFE/RL that the law adopted on June 27, 2010, on the implementation of Kyrgyzstan's constitution prescribes that incumbent Roza Otunbaeva's presidential term must end by December 31, 2011. The new president should be inaugurated by that date, Narymbaev said.

Official preliminary results gave Atambaev 63 percent of the vote in the October 30 balloting.

Kyrgyzstan 's Central Election Commission has not yet officially announced the final results, but is required by the election law to do within 20 days of the polls.

The inauguration of the new president should take place within 30 days of that announcement.

Otunbaeva, who took over after Kurmanbek Bakiev fled to Belarus following violent protests, kept her pledge not to seek the presidency in the October voting.

Narymbaev added that as soon as the inauguration takes place, Otunbaeva will officially leave office.
