WASHINGTON – The Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has opened an office in Washington.
The event was attended by several former U.S. officials, including ex-State Department spokesman P.J Crowley and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton.
The opening of the office comes some seven months after the United States dropped the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), the largest member in the NCRI, from its list of terrorist organizations.
The move was condemned by Iran, which considers MKO a terrorist group.
The MKO, which sided with Iraq during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, was behind a number of attacks against Iranian officials in the 1980s.
The group says it is seeking regime change through peaceful means.
