A Georgian national has been arrested in Belarus for attempting to hijack a plane.
The Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) said the man attempted to hijack a passenger plane that was flying from Kutaisi, Georgia, to the Belarusian capital, Minsk, on June 10.
According to a statement on the KGB website, the plane's crew received a written demand from the passenger to divert the aircraft to a European Union country.
The passenger threatened to blow up the plane if his demands were not met.
The crew managed to land the plane in Minsk and the man was arrested.
The passsenger's name was not made public, only the year of his birth – 1973.
Investigations have been launched into the incident.
