The following information is in addition to that contained within GRC17962.E of 7 November 1994 and GRC19120.E. of 24 November 1994 and Country Reports 1997. Further information on Greek nationality can be found on REFWORLD. The Consulate General of Greece at New York, N.Y. indicates that individuals of Greek descent must submit the following original documents when applying for Greek citizenship: Birth Certificate; Certificate of Baptism; Marriage Certificate; Current Passport; Father's Birth Certificate; and, Parents' marriage certificate from church and marriage registration certificate from the city. This source also indicates that, if the father was not registered in Greece, there is a need to also submit the grandfather's certificate of registration from the municipal records of the city/town where he was registered as well as the grandparents' marriage certificate (n.d.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
