According to a representative of the Consulate of Iran in Ottawa, a marriage must first be officially registered in Iran or at any Embassy of Iran (5 Aug. 1992). The representative further reported that once a marriage is officially registered the Filipino woman will receive an Iranian passport and a booklet used both as an identification document and a birth certificate (Ibid.). If the marriage is not registered the woman will not be recognized as an Iranian national (Ibid.). The representative added that it is always possible to register a marriage even after the couple has been married for a long time (Ibid.).
