Protesters in Kyiv in July demanded the release by Russia of Ukrainian military pilot Nadia Savchenko.Protesters in Kyiv in July demanded the release by Russia of Ukrainian military pilot Nadia Savchenko.

A lawyer for Nadia Savchenko says the captured Ukrainian air force pilot remains "resolute" after 50 days on a hunger strike in a Russian prison.

Mark Feigin said on February 2 that Savchenko has lost a lot of weight but remains determined to defend her innocence and attend her upcoming trial.

Feigin visited Savchenko at a hospital ward in Moscow's notorious Matrosskaya Tishina detention center on January 30.

She was transferred to the ward on January 29 because of medical personnel described as "abrupt weight loss."

Savchenko was captured by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine last June and transferred to Russian custody in July.

Russian prosecutors have charged with illegally crossing the border and involvement in the deaths of two Russian journalists who were killed while covering the war in eastern Ukraine.

Savchenko says the case against her is fabricated, her transfer to Russia was illegal, and that Russia has no right to prosecute her.
