Resolution 653 (1990) of 20 April 1990

The Security Council,

Having examined the letter addressed to the President of the Security Council by the Secretary-General on 19 April 1990 (S/21257) concerning the United Nations Observer Group in Central America (ONUCA), as well as his statement of 19 April 1990 (S/21259) to the members of the Security Council in which he briefed them on the agreements signed in Managua that day, which envisage the complete demobilization of the Nicaraguan resistance by ONUCA during the period from 25 April to 10 June 1990,

Reaffirming its resolutions 644 (1989) of 7 November 1989 and 650 (1990) of 27 March 1990,

1. Approves the proposals concerning the addition of new tasks to ONUCA's mandate contained in the Secretary-General's letter of 19 April 1990 (S/21257) and in the above-mentioned statement (S/21259);

2. Requests the Secretary-General to report to the Security Council on all aspects of ONUCA's operations before the expiry of the current mandate period on 7 May 1990.

Adopted unanimously at the 2919th meeting.
