Madrid For Refugees invites you to yoga and Danzen classes every Monday (19:45-21:00) with professional instructor Yoly from Venezuela. Classes start with hatha yoga and end with DanZen, a dialogue between music and the body to promote self-esteem and motivation.These classes are part of Madrid For Refugees’ incubator project that provides space for migrants, refugees, and people recently arrived to Spain to develop their own projects for the community. Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services invites you to join participants of the Migrant and Refugee Leadership Academy and experts who will discuss the latest research findings on the integration of refugees, particularly their contributions to the U.S. workforce and society from the perspective of refugees and employers. They will also highlight how the reduction of refugee admissions and proposed policy changes on public charge rules have impacted local communities. The dialogue will shed light on the current policy debate taking place which seeks to implement a skills-based admission immigration system.

Walk a Mile in a Refugee’s Shoes is a simulation created to expose people to the lives of refugees in refugee camps in the first person narrative. Each attendee receives information regarding the details of a refugee’s life and is expected to play the role of that refugee. World Refugee Day at Indy Urban Acres will also include a service project and a community art project, followed by a program by BACI students at Old Bethel United Methodist Church down the street.

What will it take to expand access to education, health care and skills development among refugee communities? Featuring Jaja Bashengezi: Global music icon Jaja Bashengezi was forced to flee from his Lake Kivu home in 1994, when the Rwandan genocide began to spill over into Eastern Congo.

Partnering with Carry The Future, we will be making comfort blankets and teddy bears to be distributed to refugee centers around the world, any level of crafting skill is invited. We will also be collecting donations for supplies and diapers for refugee parents.

Step into the daily lives of refugees through VR films
By stepping inside a real UNHCR refugee tent and putting on a pair of Virtual Reality goggles, visitors can either come face to face with the refugee girl Sidra and her life in a refugee camp in Jordan or they can be immersed in the lives of children in Lebanon, South Sudan and Ukraine. The videos allow the viewer to experience from a first-person perspective how these children go about their everyday life in their search for safety and their efforts to survive.

To understand how the registration and identification of forcibly displaced people takes place, visitors to the event can take iris and fingerprint scans. Like all citizens in the world, refugees need ID documents, which are also required by the countries where they are arriving. Biometric scans are an indispensable means of identification for refugees, many of whom have lost their personal documents while fleeing war or war-like situations. Once their identity is registered, they can find safety and can get access to basic assistance such as food and shelter.

Beside the UNHCR family tent, the “My ID-entity” photo exhibit shows scenes of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, the world’s largest refugee camp, where UNHCR, with the support of the European Union, registers and provides humanitarian support to Rohingya refugees.

Step with refugees
To reach safety, refugees walk every year as many as 2 billion kilometers. This is why UNHCR invites citizens, in the context of their “2 billion kilometres to safety” campaign, to walk, run or cycle in solidarity with refugees. During the entire day, visitors will be able to contribute their kilometers to the total objective of reaching the 2 billion kilometers by walking or running on the spot.

EMBARC, a local nonprofit founded and led by refugees, will host a World Refugee Day luncheon. Lunch will provided by Ginger Thai with speakers and entertainment from the Burma Community.

A collaboration between Impression 5 Science Center, the Refugee Development Center, Honors College students from Michigan State University and The Global Institute of Lansing. The temporary exhibit will display stories from local youth and adult refugees.

Philadelphia Regional Refugee Providers’ Colaborative (PRRPC) will be hosting three celebrations across the city, introducing Philadelphia’s refugees to their neighbors for a day of socializing, celebration, food and fun. Activities will include food from local immigrants’ home countries; dancing to music provided by neighborhood musicians and bands; and games and fun activities for children.

Experience a PhotoVoice exhibit sharing the experiences and meaningful occupations of two refugees living in Boston. This exhibit will showcase photographs taken by the individuals paired with audio as they share their own experiences and meanings related to the items and locations they have chosen to photograph.

Pocatello – Bridges and the Idaho State University Political Science Club invite all of Pocatello and the surrounding communities to experience and commemorate World Refugee Day 2019. There will be a screening of “God Grew Tired of Us,” a documentary about the “Lost Boys of Sudan.” The screening will be followed by discussion and questions led by Zeze Rwasama, Director of the CSI Refugee Center, Mona Heern, Pocatello educator and Mary Lupumba, ISU student.

This Take Action Happy Hour has a special focus on Venezuela as many families struggle to survive and cross the border in search of a better life. BRAVO will welcome 20 students from their summer camp as well as four professional musicians originally from Venezuela and Chile, performing music to honor refugees around the world.

Join us in honor of Karam Foundation’s World Refugee Day campaign, which highlights the dreams and aspirations of Syrians who will be our future artists, engineers, journalists and, most importantly, leaders.The campaign culminates on June 20th, World Refugee Day itself, with this exciting event, where we’ll be commemorating the past while looking towards the future. Guests will have a chance to mingle over light bites, shop Karam’s Scents of Syria collection, and enjoy musical and spoken word performances by local artists.

The event will feature delicious cuisine presented by Syrian New American families. A lively kid’s corral including a bounce house, face painting, yard games, and snow cones will contribute to a fun family atmosphere. Finally, the festival will feature music performed by local Syrian and Congolese musicians.

The award-winning National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene production of Fiddler on the Roof will fill its theater with refugees in celebration and in honor of World Refugee Day. The performance will be complemented by an afternoon and evening full of events, concluding with a talkback moderated by activist, educator and businessman Luis A. Miranda Jr.
