Global Refugee Forum

17-18 December 2019

One year after the affirmation of the Global Compact on Refugees, the first Global Refugee Forum will build momentum towards achieving the objectives of this new commitment to international cooperation and will focus international attention on global refugee situations.

The Global Refugee Forum, convened at the ministerial level, is an opportunity for UN Member States and other stakeholders to announce concrete contributions and pledges towards the objectives of the Global Compact to achieve tangible benefits for refugees and host communities.

The Global Refugee Forum will also provide an opportunity to explore ways in which responsibility-sharing can be increased, take stock of progress, and showcase good practices that can inform the development of future commitments.

Pledges and contributions may take the form of financial, material, and technical assistance; resettlement places and complementary pathways for admission to third countries; as well as other actions that States have elected to take at the national level. Pledges can be made either individually or jointly with other actors.

The first Global Refugee Forum will take place on 17 and 18 December 2019 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

UNHCR will convene a series of preparatory meetings in Geneva, providing an opportunity to discuss the pledging process and other key elements ahead of the first Global Refugee Forum.

Official documents and additional information will be posted in due course.
