Mali: Returning to Gao, restarting a life
Maimouna is a widow, a mother and grandmother, and never had a paying job until now. But with seed money from UNHCR and NGO support, she and other formerly displaced women have returned to their homes in Gao, following an Islamist insurgency that forced them to flee, and are earning desperately needed money from sales of basic food items they craft by hand.
