Are you a Syrian refugee, outside of Syria, interested in coming to Canada through the Private Sponsorship program? Then you need:

1. A friend / relative residing in the Greater Toronto Area, with either Permanent Resident or Citizenship status
2. The Refugee Status document from UNHCR or country of residence saying you are “recognized as a refugee“. NOTE: If the document says the “claim for refugee status is being examined”, you do not have refugee status.

Do you want to Sponsor a Syrian refugee through the Private Sponsorship program? Then you need:

1. To be a Canadian permanent resident or citizen
2. Be at least 18 years old
3. Live in the same community where the refugee is expected to settle
4. Agree to give financial and settlement support for the length of the sponsorship (usually one year).
