Signing of the Letter of Understanding with "NEGAL B.V." CompanyAlmaty, 23 August 2018 – today UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency for Central Asia conducted the press conference on the occasion of signing of the Letter of Understanding (LOU) with “Negal B.V.” company. The main purpose of the LOU is access to formal employment and internship opportunities at “Negal B.V.” company and its branches for refugees residing in the Republic of Kazakhstan. As of today, 589 refugees coming from Afghanistan, Syria, Uzbekistan, China and other countries are hosted by Kazakhstan, most of them for more than 10 years; there are qualified specialists with higher education among them: doctors, teachers, architects, etc. Although refugees have the right to work according to the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, their residency status (one year renewable) remains a challenge. This LOU will enable refugees to access job opportunities with NEGAL in the same way as the local applicants, pay taxes and contribute to the development of the host communities and the country, Kazakhstan.
