Annual Tripartite Consultations on Resettlement

Sag-Nionogo is a camp of 2800 people coming mainly from the North of Mali. They have been displaced due to violence perpetrated to their families and friends. The Annual Tripartite Consultations on Resettlement (ATCR) began in 1995. This annual event lies at the root of strengthened cooperation between governments, NGOs and UNHCR.

The ATCR allows for open and frank dialogue, and strives to produce positive outcomes by forging collaborative approaches to global resettlement. It provides an opportunity to address a wide range of policy and procedural matters, including advocacy, capacity building and operational support.

An important outcome is the tripartite relationship itself, which promotes transparency and stimulates the development of new and innovative ways to solve problems and combine resources to improve resettlement for refugees.

In recent years, the ATCR has taken place in July. The event involves government representatives from resettlement States, NGOs involved in refugee resettlement, intergovernmental and international organizations, and UNHCR. As part of our global strategy to broaden the base on resettlement, the ATCR has been open to observers from States providing Emergency Transit Facilities, potential or emerging resettlement States, and States interested in the resettlement process.
