    As solutions for refugees shrink worldwide, resettling the most vulnerable ones from fragile situations to stable countries saves lives: we need more (not less!) resettlement places and more states to accept resettled refugees.

    In 2017, UNHCR received voluntary contributions from 147 donors, ranging from Member States, pooled funds to private individuals. The main source of diversity came from the private sector. There were 1.92 individual donors to UNHCR in 2017, up 22% from 1.57 M the year before.

    Thanks to funding from our major global donors like the , half a million Turkish language books have been provided to Public Education Centres that are teaching Syrian refugee children Turkish and getting them back on track to a brighter future. 📚

    In 2017, unearmarked funding came to $588.7 million from 87 donors. Over 75% of UNHCR’s unearmarked funding was received in the first quarter of the year, providing the Office with timely and invaluable flexibility.

    There are currently 2.6 M refugees & asylum seekers from South Sudan, which is enough to fill Kazan Arena in Russia 60 times. UNHCR provides protection & life-saving assistance to South Sudanese refuges, yet more support is needed to fill the current funding gap of USD 742.7 M.

    The share of flexible funding (unearmarked & softly earmarked) decreased from 52% in 2012 to 35% in 2017. This meant that about two thirds of UNHCR’s income in 2017 was earmarked at the country level and below. Read more in the 2017 Global Report:
