“Searching for Syria explores five of the most common search queries that people around the world are asking with about Syria. Through an immersive website, combining maps and satellite imagery with video, photos, data visualization & simple text we will provide rich, dynamic answers.

People in every corner of the world want to know more about what is happening in Syria. They’re searching for information and for insight. They’re trying to fathom and understand what’s going on, why, and to whom. In 2016 alone people searched for information about Syria and refugees over 160 million times. One of the top searches is people simply trying find out how they might help.

People search for many reasons. To learn, to research, to make better decisions. Sometimes to connect, share, and survive. Sharing these trends, based on UNHCR verified data, will ensure that people searching to better understand one of the most terrible events of the last six years will be able to do just that.”
