Nothing could’ve prepared me for the scale of crisis and extent of suffering I saw today in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. I heard heartbreaking accounts from Rohingya refugees that will stay with me forever. My appeal to the int’l community is to step up support.

Starting my visit to Libya by remembering all those who have lost their lives in desperate attempts to cross the sea. They are people, not numbers. Women, men, children. May they rest in peace.

We are appalled by a deadly incident in Libya in which traffickers killed 12 people after a group of some 200 captive Eritreans, Ethiopians and Somalis attempted to escape. UNHCR colleagues are on the ground helping the survivors, who include children.
