    There is no "migration crisis" in Europe: sea crossings are at a 5-yr low. But while women, men & children die at sea, in the desert, or behind the other walls used to keep them away, EU leaders discuss how to build more such walls, farther & higher. That I call a "moral crisis".

    Survivors saved by the USTrenton and arrived with the "Diciotti" in Pozzallo reported that 76 migrants (15 women and 1 baby included) lost their life in the shipwreck of 12/06. Before departure they've been tortured by smugglers,women have been raped.They were exhausted.

    Back to the idea of external processing? This has been looked at before & always abandoned. There are legal questions. Also any country hosting one of these centers would immediately become a magnet for asylum seekers from all over. What happens to those rejected/not resettled?

    According to latest info the over 500 on the Italian Coast Guard ship Diciotti will eventually arrive today in Pozzallo.Among them the 40 survivors saved last week by the US Trenton. They had to wait abt 7 days to get to land.

    Good news. A solution has been found: are being transferred to Italian Coast Guard ships and will arrive tomorrow or Sunday in Italy. At the end they will be disembarked 4/5 days after the deadly shipwreck. It must have been a dramatic and painful experience for them.
