    One can only hope there’s a silver lining in these poll findings, even if Trump and his base tend to sour the nation‘s mood & undermine its morality. (Because for better or worse, often insidiously, a president sets a nation’s moral tone.)

    As they were sentenced to time served, two migrant fathers asked if it was possible to be sent home with their children. The judge was unable to offer them any assurances. "Hopefully there are procedures in place," the judge said.

    Witnessing some of the plea hearings here in McAllen & Brownsville, as fathers and mothers beg federal judges to reunite them with their missing children has been among the most shocking things I've ever seen.

    My thoughts exactly. Chappatte is Swiss-born but his work appears in publications around the world. He has an empathetic take on global issues, speaks to universal values, and is never condescending. He’s really a “citizen of the world,” as Charlie Chaplin considered himself.

    Have to wonder how long the family-separation issue remains front and center for WH press corps. With Trump, new controversies and scandals tend to bump old ones. Does this issue have longer legs?
