Rather shell-shocked after 2 days of talks in Brussels, caught between JCPOA-trauma,Trump's unbelievable behaviour and hostility during the G7, deep foreboding before NATO summit & prospective Trump-Putin deal-making. EU: petrified in the headlights. NATO: head in the sand

: “Underpass”. by Bruce Buchanan, a realist landscape painter. The artist says he wanted the composition of receding red brick piers and archways to lead us to the bike rider. I’d say: “Mission accomplished.”

The Muharrem Ince Factor: Some estimate 2.5 million are joining Muharrem Ince's rally in Izmir-a CHP stronghold. Lets say it is even half of that, simply mind boggling. Turkey has not seen an election like this in decades.

One can only hope there’s a silver lining in these poll findings, even if Trump and his base tend to sour the nation‘s mood & undermine its morality. (Because for better or worse, often insidiously, a president sets a nation’s moral tone.)

Opinion: Worse to come? I fear that the harrowing ordeal of the is merely a harbinger of what is to come as anti- and anti-EU sentiment becomes more entrenched - and normalized - across the continent.

As they were sentenced to time served, two migrant fathers asked if it was possible to be sent home with their children. The judge was unable to offer them any assurances. "Hopefully there are procedures in place," the judge said.

Opinion: ’s over-weening pride and mortal fear of being seen as weak or ever admitting - heaven forbid! - he was wrong, is apparent in the way he went about trying to end his policy. (“Trying” because his fix is only a stop-gap measure.) This from :

Problem not solved: The NYT reports that ’s executive order does NOT address the plight of more than 2,300 children who have already been separated from their parents under Trump’s “zero-tolerance” policy.

My thoughts exactly. Chappatte is Swiss-born but his work appears in publications around the world. He has an empathetic take on global issues, speaks to universal values, and is never condescending. He’s really a “citizen of the world,” as Charlie Chaplin considered himself.

I’ll be on again at 0730GMT trying to explain what today’s -related vote in the House of Commons is - and is NOT - about. Let’s just say: “It’s complicated.” (Spoiler alert: it’s not about MPs getting the power to reject Brexit if a deal is reached with EU.)

On today’s Global Grid at 0545GMT: As a showdown looms in UK over how much say parliament should have over , Tory feuding continues & country’s leaders still have no clear idea what Bexit means. This, as the EU calls on members to prep for a ‘no-deal’ scenario.

Mouth agape. Tripling down on a total Four-Pinocchio falsehood. Saying it over and over does not make it so. We have now fact checked this three times. It’s still false.

Have to wonder how long the family-separation issue remains front and center for WH press corps. With Trump, new controversies and scandals tend to bump old ones. Does this issue have longer legs?
