In loving memory of Peter Firmin. When he got his honorary degree from Essex University in 2015, Bagpuss got a little cap and gown too. This makes me happy.

What is a library? A living body of knowledge, constantly tended for the benefit of all, so fake news is weeded out & we're never exploited for profit. A library is librarians. A library is love.

I'm so infuriated that the press still doesn't seem to grasp what the word "library" stands for. I'm going to write yet another piece advising them how to talk about libraries. Tell me, what does the word "library" mean to you? What is a REAL library?

In a digital age, traditional media art stands out. Here is my new painting of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module about to land, done in acrylics with hand and airbrush on illustration board. The craters are accurately portrayed, the landing spot just beyond the bottom of the frame.

Only 54% of claimants were able to fill out the paperwork without help. Where are people being sent by the Govt to find help? The library. What public service is constantly under threat from Govt cuts? The library.

The PMs praise of the fire service at during was disengenous. Under the tories 32% of firefighter jobs have been cut in Gr Manchester. May's gov needs to learn that empty praise for the public sector does not make up for years of pay cuts & underfunding

I was commissioned by at great expense to them, to write big poem cards - like posters. The poems repeated phonic elements - consonants, vowels, digraphs etc, I wrote I think about 100. They printed them all. And then Gove phonics came in and they pulped the lot.

Such is the buzz of summer right now with an abundance of winged creatures reminding me of this beautiful but whimsical Doucet ballgown c1905. The embroidered motifs feature an array of bees swarming all over the dress, Les Arts Decoratifs

So true. Just been into my local library. Older people using the computers, Polish family printing their legal documents, parents reading with kids. Essential community service.

Ireland plans to double library use by opening 8am to 10pm and abolishing fines. Staffless technology used to extend hours and not to replace staff. This shows government ambition of the sort England has completely lacked for decades.
