    I got a chance to teach these Rohingya refugee boys a small bit of English. All they knew how to say was 'bye!' There are over 460,000 refugee kids here. They lost and suffered so much but they have their joy back.

    Bēgļa statusu piešķir, izskatot katru iesniegumu atsevišķi - pamatojoties uz Patvēruma likumu. Tādu statusu nepiešķir cilvēkiem, kuri vienkārši meklē pārtikušu dzīvi. Arī ar karu bēgļa statusam nav tiešas un automātiskas saistības.

    Ir cilvēki, kuriem nomāds dzīvesveids ir norma. Bet tāpēc tiem, kuri pastāvīgi dzīvo nav nomādi jāatbalsta. Kas skar karošanu un bēgšanu no kara, tad tos bēgļus, kurus esmu LV saticis ne jau no kara bēguši, bet pēc laiskas pārtikušas dzīves.

    It is not enough to have political agreements between States when people continue to drown in the Mediterranean. Rescue at sea, disembarkation and safe pathways must all be urgently improved so that lives can be saved.

    Saddened by the loss of 100 lives today off the coast of Libya in Tajoura - 30 women and 70 men died after swimming for one hour before they were rescued. UNHCR teams supported the 16 survivors upon disembarkation with humanitarian and medical assistance
