    In old city, having suffered years of terror + forced displacement + psychological trauma, many residents are slowly returning to scenes of complete destruction. Despite the devastation + destitution, they remain committed to rebuilding their lives, homes + communities.

    3. I am leaving vibrant teams in the field & in Geneva. They were my daily source of energy and inspiration over the past 6 years. They will continue to help those communities who need us most and remind warring sides that conflicts without limits are conflits without end.

    2. So much more still needs to be done for people caught up in wars. States supporting parties to the conflicts raging in the region should & must do more to ensure their partners respect the rules of war. There should be no support without compliance with Intl humanitarian law.

    It is not enough to have political agreements between States when people continue to drown in the Mediterranean. Rescue at sea, disembarkation and safe pathways must all be urgently improved so that lives can be saved.

    Saddened by the loss of 100 lives today off the coast of Libya in Tajoura - 30 women and 70 men died after swimming for one hour before they were rescued. UNHCR teams supported the 16 survivors upon disembarkation with humanitarian and medical assistance
