The primary focus of the Operation in Turkey is on urban refugees, considering that over 90 percent of refugees in Turkey live in urban areas. However, taking into account that some 10 per cent of refugees live in camps, administered by the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), UNHCR has been and will continue supporting refugees in camps through the provision of core-relief items (CRI) and winter support items such as; tents, shower and WC containers, mobile health clinics, blankets, heaters, kitchen sets and vocational training sets.
UNHCR teams visit regularly all refugee camps and provide technical assistance to authorities on registration, camp management, and identification of vulnerabilities, voluntary repatriation and other protection concerns. Technical support on education, health and nutrition, water sanitation and site planning will continue to be provided as well.
